This is the site survey for Douglas Creek site 2 on May 9, 2011.The survey people are Hailey Kaden Braylen Taylor and Mr. Moreno.

First I will tell you of the riparian zone. The width for left bank is 0-50ft. and the right bank is 0-50ft. The vegetation has no conifer trees and deciduous is abundant. Shrubs are abundant and grasses and herbs are abundant. The overhead canopy is 50-75%.

Next I will tell you about the channel. The channel is what area the stream flows in. The shape cross section is steep sides and a flat bottom. The longitudinal pattern is braided and the gradient is moderate.

Next I will tell you about the stream banks. The vegetation on the stream bank is abundant. The protection is 0-25%. The banks stability has erosion in some areas.

We also surveyed the habitat in our reach. The number of riffles is about 10. The number of pools are 1. The percentage of riffles is 50-75% the percentage of the pools is 25%.

Now I will tell you about the land use adjacent to the stream. We have a road and there are camping spots. Also we had tire tracks in to the stream. We have some artificial structures like litter and garbage.

The average pH for site 2 in 2010 was 7.5. That means plants, catfish, and some insects can live there. Also bass, crappie, snails, clams, mussels, larger variety of organisms (salmon trout, may flies caddis flies stoneflies. Nest I will tell you about the temperature.
What we had for Test 1 was temp 54 & that is good for Test 2 &3 we did not do but for avg. it was 54 too.

Site 2 had we had 16 Non-Tolerant. Did not have somewhat Tolerant We had 7 Tolerant macroinvertebrates. Altogether we had 23 macroinvertebrates our water was somewhat Non-Tolerant.

Site 2 is at a place called Douglas Creek. We study there, with the animals and we do photo points. Site 2 is close to the camping and a parking area. You are going to know about our site at Douglas Creek.

We will first tell you about the riparian zone. The riparian zone is the green part of the creek. The width on the left side looking down stream is 50-100”. The width on the right side looking downstream is also 50-100”. There is a lot of vegetation. There are 0% conifers, 100% deciduous trees, 15%shrubs, and 100% grasses and herbs. The overhead canopy is 25-50%.

Next we are going to tell you about the channel. The shape in the cross section is a U shape. because it gradually gets deeper.

Now we will tell you about the reach habitat. The number of riffles is 1. The % is 10%. The number of pools is 3. The percentage is 50%. The woody debris is sparse. The organic debris is sparse.

Next were going to describe some of our stream Banks. Our vegetation cover is Abundant. There are grasses all over, you can barely walk with all the grass. Our artificial bank protection was 50-75% and our bank stability was only erosion in some areas with a bank.

Our group’s artificial structures were no dams, no diversions, no culverts, no storm drains, no pipes, and no weirs. But we did have litter and garbage. A long the stream reach are no bridges, no roads, no flood retention, and no flood detentions.

Next we will tell you how the land is used next to our stream reach. There is no residential development, no commercial development, no industrial development, no mining, there is recreation, no irrigation/water withdrawals; there is crops, no grazing/livestock or access to our stream. and no logging

This is how the plants and animals of Douglas Creek watershed work together. In Site2 we studied the Macro invertebrates,Water quality, insects, Vegetation, animals, and steam banks.

First, we will tell you about the water quality at our site. Our left bank looking downstream is 50-100' and the right bank looking downstream is 0-50'. Our shape in cross-section has a nice flat bottom with steep sides. Our Gradient is moderate, the vegetation cover was abundant. and artificial bank protection was 0-25%. Bank stability was bank intact. There were 20 riffles and 3 pools, the woody debris was sparse and the organic debris was sparse also. The only artificial structures were litter and garbage.

Second, we will discuss the plants at our site. We think the plants at our site are doing well except for the people who go camping at Douglas Creek. They keep walking on all the grass and they left beer cans full of cigarettes and broken chairs. They even left a floaty.

Next, we will talk about the animals and animal evidence we found. We found 3 beaver sticks, 2 bull snakes, and heard 1 rattlesnake. One of the bull snakes was eating a fish and the fish was a trout! You can see the picture elsewhere on our blog. We think that our site is good for plants and animals because there is lots of animal evidence.

Finally, how is our site doing? We think our site is doing well because of all the animal evidence that we found and there is lots of vegetation.

We are going to tell you about site #2. Our stream reach is 100 feet. First we will tell you about the Riparian Zone. The left bank looking downstream is 50-100 ft. The right bank looking down stream is 0-50ft. There are no conifer trees, moderate deciduous trees, there are abundant shrubs and grasses/herbs. Our overhead canopy was 0-25%.
Next we will tell you about our channel. Our shape in cross-section is a nice flat bottom and steep sides. Our longitudinal pattern is meandering. The gradient is low.
Now we will tell you about stream banks. Our vegetation cover is abundant. Artificial bank protection is 0-25%. The bank stability is the bank is intact.
Another thing we will tell you is the reach habitat. The number of riffles is 20 and 2 pools. Woody debris is sparse and organic debris is moderate.
We will also tell you about artificial structures (man made). We only have garbage/ litter and 4 wheeler tracks.
Finally we are going to tell you about the land uses at site#2. We only saw recreation was present.

It was May, 7, 2008. At site #2 Desi, Lakin, Dillon and I were doing our photo point at Douglas Creek. The township was 23 and the range was 23 also. But enough with that stuff. Hi I’m Kim I’m going to tell you about site #2 at Douglas Creek. First I’m going to tell you about the riparian zone. Well on the left bank it was 0-50%, on the right bank it is also 0-50%.
On the vegetation the shrubs were abundant and they were 80% of cover. The conifer was sparse and it was 0% of cover. The deciduous was moderate and 10% of cover, and grasses and herbs were also abundant and they were 80% of cover.
Now the overhead canopy. It was 0-25%.
Another is the channel. In the longitudinal pattern it was straight. The gradient was moderate, and the alterations were none. The woody debris was abundant and the organic debris was moderate.
